Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope-   1 Peter 3:15

How in the World can we be Thankful??

Sometimes the chaos of the world will blur our vision with despair, worry and fear. Where can we go to find the Truth? Where can we find peace amid this chaotic world? How can we truly have Hope that prevails?

The reality in this world is many are without hope. As a result of the COVID-19 virus, Suicide rates in Michigan rose 33% according.to http://www.bridgemi.com, Life Hurts. These stats are only those being reported. What would drive someone to take his or her life? Thousands of those left behind agonize over this question when a loved one chooses to exit the world this way. Something in their hearts and minds had to hurt so badly they thought there was no way out. Or maybe it was a moment of desperation?

The victims of COVID19 is far reaching and is NOT just those who get the virus. People have lost their jobs, security, homes and some as mentioned above, take their own lives. For safety reasons some of our elderly are isolated from loved ones and some will even die alone. Masks and the six feet rule of social distancing may be necessary, but it takes a big toll on relationships. Science backs up the facts that we need human touch. We need to have connections with others. We are by nature and creation a social being.

May we never forget those who work in the health fields. Doctors, nurses, techs, and many others who take care of us are on the front lines taking the risk to help us. They are making a sacrifice of long hours, not only risking their wellbeing but their immediate family when they go home from work. God bless them one and all. Where is their protection and peace of mind as they care for us?

Then we have people who fight over toilet paper. And those who fight someone who has a mask on – or does not have one on! It depends on who gets bent out of shape the most. We fight simply because someone does not agree [James 4:1]. Each person is convinced s/he is right! How can we find and have peace if everyone thinks differently, but everybody is right in their own eyes? That is their personal perception but is it actuality?

Many have their Hope in a COVID19 vaccine! Some want to shut down America for another 5 or 6 months! Will it work? No one knows for sure. We cannot even agree on who won the election because there is so much fraud and deceit in the political system. So where is there HOPE we can count on?

Major Pain points

As if the world’s problems were not enough, we have our own personal physical problems. My “problem list” has 26 issues on the list. To name a few, I have Multiple Sclerosis, blind left eye, osteoporosis, and the most recent add on is Rheumatoid Arthritis which hit me this year It slammed me with more pain. I am not alone. Thousands wake up each day with their own personal battle. It could be RA, MS, ALS, Cancer or a hundred other diseases. Where is the hope when the disease is progressive, unpredictable, and incurable?

How in the world can we be thankful? I have many reasons to be thankful! But this article’s focus is the greatest reason we should be thankful! There are millions of books in the world. You would think humankind would have THE Answer to the problems in the world by now. Many think the answer is in a global reset, the one world order and the COVID19 vaccine. There are many theories.

The Truth is the Answer for our world is not a theory nor or a Religion. It is a Relationship. We have the great privilege to choose to be in a relationship with the One Who created the world! We need to repent of our sin (all have sinned and fall short; Romans 3:23) and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. At that moment, our heart is transformed anew! My prayer is the Holy Spirit will woo you into a real relationship with God our Father by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior if you have not done so. It is the best and most important decision you will ever make.

We serve the GOD of Hope. We need to remember His plan for this world has nothing to do with having our best life now, at least NOT the way the world thinks of it. Our best life is now is in knowing the God of Hope. Amid the political chaos we can have peace.  When we accept Jesus, the Holy Spirit indwells us. He is the Comforter and gives us peace that passes all understanding [Philippians 4:7].

Throughout history our Nation has been through many, many storms, and wars. Never does the horizon of this world seem so dark and bleak. Yet we have reason to be thankful. Not thankful for the circumstances but thankful we can know the One Who will see us through. He promises never to leave or forsake us. He is my King. I know He keeps His promises.  He loves me. He loves you. We have the reason to give thanks to God…everyday!

How in the world can we be thankful? Jesus is always the reason to be thankful.

John 3:16-17

King James Version

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

The Bible: The Truth that sets us free.

Why we need a Savior

Romans 3:10  As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one;

Romans 3:23  for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 10:10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved

HOPE That Does Not Change

Brothers in arms

Where can you find peace in a world of chaos? Where do you search for hope when your life is falling apart? Do you want to know that you KNOW that even in the midst of this seemingly floundering world that everything really is going to be more okay? The good news is that it shall come to pass if you are born from above (accept Christ as your LORD and personal Savior) that your future could not be better. It is the Prevailing Hope that you can totally rely on because it is The Word of God.

In the Word of God (King James Version) the phrase “and it came to pass” is used over 400 times.  The first time is in Gen. 4:3 “And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.” The last time in the Word of God “and it came to pass” is in 1 Thes. 3:4  “For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.” Whereas in Rev. 1:1  the Word says “it shortly will come to pass.”

When you are in  the midst of turmoil, in agony from physical or emotional pain it may seem like it will never end. The Truth is whatever you are facing in life shall “come to pass,” in time. Every thing changes in this world except the WORD of God and His promises.  The struggles I have today will not be struggles 40 years from now for it this struggle will come to pass.  Even the good times we have in life also come to pass. I have been with friends who I wish we never had to part because we have fun and enjoy each others company. These times come to pass leaving behind good memories. Day changes into night, night changes into day, days become weeks, weeks become months, months become years and one day it seems we wake up wondering how we changed so much!

The LORD God changes not. Our Hope can be put fully upon His Word because His Word doesn’t change.

The list of trustworthy people with authority and who have power on earth in my opinion is few. The ONE we can trust is King of kings and LORD of lords. His Word is Truth and hundreds of the prophecies of His Word have already came to pass. There are a few promises yet to be fulfilled. He is coming back soon.
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass;
Jesus is the world’s Prevailing HOPE.  He came not to condemn the world but save the world. John 3:17  He came to give us the choice of choosing Life or Death. When we choose Life,  Our future is bright regardless of any hardship or extreme painful experiences you or I are having now as…these things shall also come to pass.
So what awaits the believer when h/she departs this earthly body or when the LORD returns? What I believe about Heaven is what is written in the Word of God…

1 Cor. 2:9 But, as it is written,

“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love him”—

Ps. 16:11  You make known to me the path of life;
    in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

This is a word picture that I relate too because I have a dog that responds exactly like this.

Restricting Restrictions

Posted on

Feeling confine….

So do you feel restricted, shut in, bored, uneasy or as they used to say “got ants in your pants?” Well, you are not alone. At least by reading many posts on social media it seems the cornoravirus has really “upset the apple cart” of many lives. We have entered a new territory for many. Never before do I remember the Governor order people to stay home due to a virus. We are a Nation on the go. Before this most of us were out working, going to school, movies, sports, vacations, and the list goes on. In fact, a family usually meant a group of people who are related living under one roof but seldom seeing each other. Since the order of staying home, perhaps families will sit at the table and have supper together. Having supper together was the normal thing to do when I was a kid. We didn’t kill each other. We learned to get along. So there are some potential good things that can r esult fro having restrictions to stay home. Yet, there are many not so good results including loss of jobs, loss of businesses, loss of education, loss of mobility to those who need pool or other therapy.

Many have asked me how I am holding out being restricted/quarantine. Not much has changed for me. For many years the only places I went has been doctor appointments and to pool therapy. Sometimes I got out to church on Sunday. I do get out to the back yard daily to walk my Service dog Zilla. This whole thing has been an awakening to me how not normal I am. It is incredible how much other people get out. It seems to drive them crazy to stay home. Since I have had Multiple Sclerosis and many other issues that place limitations on my ability to get out; I want to share with you that we don’t have to allow restrictions to restrict us. I don’t and I won’t be restricted. To me, it is a heart issue.

Even when we are restricted to our homes we truly are a blessed Nation. Do we really know what living a restricted life is all about? Ask someone bedridden or in a wheel chair. Or how about a person thrown in jail in China, tortured or persecuted for their faith in Christ. When I start feeling confine by chronic pain and weakness, I think of my friend Bill Sweeny; he writes his blog using his eyes to type one letter at a time. He has ALS. Bill is a true inspiration to me. If you want perspective on being confine check out his blog at http://www.unshakeablehope.com Regardless if our only restriction is what the government puts on us or if it is our body that restricts us in every way, the truth is: we can be free. Totally free. When we choose this freedom; no chains can hold us, no disease can steal from us, no government can control us.

Jesus said the “Truth will make you free.” (John 8:32 NKJV) How? I will be celebrating Resurrection Day unrestricted but confine in my small apartment with my Service dog, Zilla and cat Abby. The Truth is Jesus set us free from death when He died for our sins and rose again. When we accept Him as LORD and Savior the chains of death are broken off. Life is fresh and our hearts are changed. As we build our relationship with the LORD through studying His Word and prayer we “SEE” differently, Things that used to be so important to us before are no longer important. The great thing is the things that used to upset us in life, no longer matter. Some of the most inspiring people in the world are those who have “lost it all in one way or the other” and found true freedom in their earthly losses. As a follower of Jesus Christ, we may be restricted by government but that is just circumstantial. We are free in Christ Jesus. Jesus went to the cross and He paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Knowing Him is freedom. He has a purpose for you and me as we journey in this life. We have joy unspeakable in the midst of grief over losses as it is not a joy the world gives. It is joy the Holy Spirit puts in our hearts. We can have peace in the midst of war. Restrictions or quarantine are things that will pass. Our Hope in Christ is knowing this life is but a vapor and then the party begins. We will be with the King of kings, LORD of lords. No more elections. No more fake news. No more pain or tears. We will have pleasures evermore and a freedom and love we never experienced on this earth. Why don’t the restrictions or quarantine bother me? My eyes are set and focused on the JOY set before me. Jesus. He is Life– unrestricted.. If you don’t know Him, you need to.

Blind Focus

PAt the age of 16 I  was diagnosed with keratoconus. This is a disease of the cornea, which causes the cornea to  thin out as it bulges.Back then in 1976, they used hard contact lenses to push the cornea back in shape.. At that time, the disease only affected my right eye. I was legally blind in my right eye until I put the hard contact lens in. It was like a miracle– I could see clearly!
But by the time I was 19, my Cornea bulged out so bad it would pop my contact off or the contact lens scratched and lacerated the courier because it no longer fit. I had my first cornea transplant at the age of 19. Again, to me this is nothing short of a miracle as I was able to see without the contact lens after the cornea healed.

Every day is like a miracle when I put my contact lens in. My first cornea transplant was 40 years ago. Over the years I had 5 cornea transplants in my left eye that failed leaving that eye  blind.

The years on my right cornea transplant has taken a toll. My vision is not real good due to scarring of the cornea. However, a special lens corrects the vision to near 20/25. Sometimes I don’t wear the contact due to the eye being sore. I can not read without the lens nor make out what is on the TV. But because the reason of my poor vision without the contact is cornea surface abnormalities I can see very good with a pair of “pinhole glasses.”

Pinhole glasses are like a regular pair of glasses except the lenses are of a black plastic material with strategically placed tiny pinholes. The eye with cornea scars and distortions

Sharpens and i can get laser focus as I find the one pinhole that blocks all the distractions out.

Sometimes my life is out of focus and distracted by the many projects or things I am doing or need to do, or by physical pain driving me nuts.. How about you? Are you ever distracted by the circumstances going on in your life? Problems? Financial, home, weather, relationships or even the crises going on around the world or maybe your backyard? There is one answer for all of our problems. The problems are complex but the answer is simple and powerful.

May we keep our life Laser Focus on
the Purpose we have in Christ

12 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 [a]fixing our eyes on Jesus, the [b]author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3 For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary [c]and lose heart.

Proverbs 4:25 – 27

Let your eyes look directly ahead

And let your [gaze be fixed straight in front of you.

26 Watch the path of your feet

And all your ways will be established.

27 Do not turn to the right nor to the left;

When I sense myself slipping down the overwhelming trail of thinking of all that is before me from medical issues to the crisis that are going on all over the world; it amazes me how powerful it is just to focus on Jesus and the truth that all these things that “bother” us are temporary. I know how tough it is to not try to figure things out and fix the broken things in our life and country. It is NOT what we are here for. We are here to be the Light in the dark world. The only way to do that is NOT by being like the world but by being like Jesus and as we fix our eyes on Him, He will show us The Way.

Sometimes we need to close our eyes to everything around us. Be blind to the world that we can focus on Jesus, trusting Him, the Author and Finisher of our faith. Keep your focus.

The UnEnding

In our fast pace world reading a book is not as popular it seems. We want fast reads, fast food and fast cars. Blog writing hits the need for short reads. Not too many people say “I read the end of the blog first!” Life, however, is more like reading a book. Would you want to read the end of your life book on earth if it were possible?

How many times have you turned to the back of the book to find out how it ends? There are books that draw you in the story and characters that become like our close friends. Sometimes  we even hate to read the last page. Other books have endings that are abrupt and troubling.

Life is full of beginnings and endings. We talk about the “end of life.” In a sense our life will end but only physically. The “who” we are Spirit and soul will live on. Where and how we will live depends on our choice.

God said (Deut. 30:19 )

“ I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,”

Choose this day

The Creator, Almighty and gracious GOD sent His Son Jesus Christ  Who lay down His life to give us a choice. We have the privilege to choose Jesus Christ as LORD and Savior. When we choose Him, we are choosing LIFE and  our last step in this life we leave our body and step over into the everlasting life that has been being prepared for us.

” but just as it is written, “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, All that God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Cor. 2:9 NASB

and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” Rev. 22;4 NASB

God gives free will to choose life or death or to “not choose” which is a choice for death, ultimately. We can live our lives like there is no such thing as Heaven and Hell or God.Our false beliefs doesn’t change the TRUTH. GOD is real and alive. Heaven and Hell are real. We will have rewards or consequences when we die, depending on our choice now.  Unfortunately, many choose death, rejecting the free gift of salvation. Death is life separated from God.

Some people say they will not choose either. Even a non choice is a choice and it is wrong. It is where there is eternal punishment and separation from God.

49 So it will be at the end of the age; the angels will come forth and take out the wicked from among the righteous, 50 and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matt. 39:49-50

Life for me is seemingly unending physical challenges and pain. I choose to hold on to a Prevailing Hope. I know about an Unending Life where Life will prevail with peace, love, and joy. Life is good because I choose to live it with Hope and the Joy of knowing God has a plan for my future and it is GOOD.

I HOPE you make the choice for unending, PREVAILING LIFE through Jesus Christ. It is the UnEnding …as it is a Life forever –without end, the way God intended it to be from the very beginning.

Yeah But Forgiveness

I used to have a “Yeah But” problem. Sometimes I still do, especially when explaining to My Father why it is not possible for me to forgive someone. Do you have a “I’ll forgive you but” problem, like me?

“Yeah but” they hurt me bad. “Yeah but” you don’t understand. “Yeah but” it is not fair! “Yeah buts”, I learned was just my excuse for my sin of being unforgiving. Without total forgiveness we tend to bring our past hurts with us into our future. We may think we are fine but beneath our “I’m fine smile.”
being unforgiving can silently fester deep within our hearts.

The house was filled with the smell of fresh baked cookies. I was not married long when I decided to surprise “X” with some warm chocolate chip cookies. When he walked through the door, I gave him one to try. “WHY did you put so many chips in these!! And you put way too many nuts in them too!!” He was yelling at me for making cookies with too many chips and nuts. Baffled, I swallowed my hurting heart that crept up in my throat. The “X” said, “I am going bowling; catch You later.” I thought good he left! I will re-home these cookies to someone who would appreciate them. My neighbor was  happy to receive the cookies. Still baffled about the whole incident I shoved that experience down in my heart.

Not too many days later, the “X” started yelling at me for sitting on my behind all day while he worked. His proof that I did nothing was dust on the top of the refrigerator. Guilty. There was dust up there but he missed acknowledging the rest of the house was clean and dinner was ready.

Oh yeah, dinner. Stuffed Cornish hens and rice, salad, vegetables and dessert. He wasn’t impressed. “Come on, we are going out!” he proclaimed. “But dinner is all ready. I cooked all day,” I said. He gave me his hurry up look and said, “Shove it in the refrigerator.” Another baffling incident that confused me. So I shoved that hurt down in my heart where hurts were starting to pile up.

Then came the day he hit me. It was the first time, on the way to church. All because we didn’t agree on a place to eat after church. No longer did I want to go to church with him. What a joke of a marriage!  The “X” could always put on a smile and be oh so helpful and nice to everyone…but me. He walked in with his smile. I walked in with a tear stained face and another hurt shoved down in my heart. The bruises were a pretty purple in a few days. He sent me a dozen carnations–the first of many dozens as it was his way of thinking it made the abuse okay. The so-called marriage continued down a slippery hill of destruction. Soon my heart was full of hurt.

Every morning, the “X” would tell me he “loved me.” If I did not say it back he would stand over me and wait until I told him I loved him. I pleaded with the LORD to help me. He did and was —if only I had listened. In order to make an honest woman out of me, I was impressed to add three words to the forced “I love you” in the morning. As soon as I heard the door slam, I added -”in the LORD.”

The heap of hurt in my heart kept growing. More baffling examples of his behavior are:

  • Putting a frozen turkey next to me in bed and told me to warm up to that.
  • Training his dog to bite at me.
  • Punching me in the head like a boxer when I did not want to go out with him, as I didn’t feel well.
  • Telling me to leave,  then blocking the door when I tried too, shoving me against the wall.
  • Chasing me with a crowbar, holding a hammer over my head and pointing a shotgun at me…and more!

So finally I heard the still small voice of the LORD when I pleaded for protection and help. Simply put I heard, “I gave you a brain, use it.”  Although I left and went back to a “promise keeper, changed man” twice. The change? He treated me worse each time I came back after about a week. The third time I left, I didn’t go back.

The most important thing the LORD impressed upon my heart was that I needed to forgive him before I left. This is where I began to have the “Yeah Buts.” My heart full of hurts had to be cleaned out like the cookies on my computer. But I didn’t know how as my “Yeah Buts” hindered true forgiveness and the freedom it brings.

The cure for the “Yeah Buts” is two powerful words that popped up in my heart. “NO BUTS!”

I knew I had to make a decision. Was it easy? NO BUT….God’s grace, mercy and love working in my heart and mind gave me the courage and wisdom to make the impossible possible. I totally forgave the “X” before leaving the last time. I asked the LORD to cleanse my heart out of all the pent up hurts. After many tears from allowing the hurts I buried so deep, to come to the surface to deal with them, I lay them down forevermore. Freedom! God’s ways are sure and true. Yes, I remember the pain of former days but they do not hurt me. The “X” has moved on and I have no ill feeling towards him. I love him in the LORD and wish him the best. I know I have the BEST life ever, free from the past hurts in mind and soul.

How many times have we been in a situation and told a person, I forgive you but thought…. “you don’t deserve my forgiveness; or do you know how much you hurt me!” Or I will forgive you “IF you don’t go out doing that any more!” A too common mistake is bringing the subject or discussion up again. Like picking on an old scab we make ourselves bleed again. If we bring up old hurts or discussions to each other; did we really forgive each other? Thankfully, the LORD doesn’t have the “Yeah But” condition as His Word says He forgives us. When God forgives He forgets. How far is the East from the West?

Psalms 103:12 (NASV) As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

“Yeah Buts” sometimes come back like a bad case of hiccups. When the “Yeah Buts” show up we need to remind ourselves “NO BUTS” is the Way to Freedom. Our Father has forgiven us of all of our sins. Jesus suffered pain we can not even imagine providing The Way to forgiveness for us. I am glad God didn’t say, “Brenda I will forgive you BUT first you must lose 50 lbs,  cut up your credit card, never get angry again, never miss church and give up Snickers bars!” So glad God is not like that. God does what He says and states His conditions (IF) in His Word.

1 John 1:9 (NIV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Jesus said, (Matthew) 6:14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Don’t forget to forgive yourself. Forgiving myself for my many foolish choices was far more difficult than forgiving others,  but it is just as necessary.

The Bait

riverbankWhen I was growing up we didn’t do a lot of fishing.  Once in a while my dad would take us down to the river bank. I love the thought of catching fish but I hated the thoughts of killing a worm or even touching them. My dad would bait my hook.. I wasn’t a natural fisher-kid. I think I was only about eight or nine, and everywhere I threw my line  I got snagged. I lost the sinkers, hook and the bait. One time I almost lost the whole pole

My dad was getting frustrated with me. He told me if I lost another sinker or if I got’ my line caught in weeds again, it was over. Seems my fishing days were on the line, literally. This made me sad. I was just beginning. Even at a young age I was not a quitter.

It was getting dark and my dad said I had to reel  my line in. I was petrified. I thought for sure my line was snagged.. My fishing line was going back and forth in the current. Strange I thought. I did not mention this to my dad as I felt like a failure already.  Now, the time of facing the music had come because we were going home.

caught oneMy dad came over to watch me reel in my line. To my great surprise there was a fish on the end of my line! To me that was a miracle! What I thought was a snag on a branch was actually this fish swimming around trying to figure out how to get unhooked. My dad came to my rescue as I never caught a fish before; I also never even took one off the hook. I felt bad for this fish. He was blinking his big eyes at me while hanging by the huge embedded hook tn his jaw. My dad said the fish was not big enough to keep so he got the hook out and released the Sucker (fish) back in the river. I hope it lived a long and happy life. Somehow the type of fish, a Sucker, is how we are to get sucked in by Satan’s hand-crafted and sharp hooks.

Sometimes I do the same stupid “mistakes” over and over again They are not really mistakes. A mistake sounds so much nicer than — sin. Regardless of what the sin is, it seems to pull me down the river and I can’t stop because of the hook in my jaw.

We all have weaknesses and I know full well what mine are. As foolish as it is sometimes I go fishing for them. Satan uses many things to bait us back into sin . He knows our weaknesses and how to lure us with his baited hook Once we take the bait we have “pleasure for a short time.” The really bad news is the bait he uses covers the hidden sharp hook. That hook will embed deeply into our jaw. We could easily die with the hook of Satan embedded in our jaw.

This is wisdom from the Old Testament even though it is not addressing hooks in the jaw….it could be applied to any sin in our past that tempts us.

Genesis 19:17 (NASB)

17 When they had brought them outside,  one said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you, and do not stay anywhere in the valley; escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away.”

Thankfully, our fish story doesn’t end there. Our Father will come to rescue us, when we repent and ask for help; He will gently get the hook of Satan out of our mouth. We have a loving Father in Heaven and Jesus our Savior died to save us from the sins that easily beset us. GOD LOVES US ALWAYS!

Galatians 1:3-5…3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil page, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forevermore. Amen.

These days I don’t fish. I still don’t like worms. However, I still get tempted by things in the world. Regretfully at times I take the bait. Then I am hooked again, needing to be rescued. God is graceful and compassionate. I get so tired of falling for the same old line yet the pull of the current seems too strong to resist. I know it is not too strong though as the LORD will make us a way of escape It is a choice to take the bait of Satan.

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has over taken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

May we never forget God loves us and gave His ALL for us The question that is in my heart of hearts is will I give Him my all, always. May we ignore the bait meant to take us down and hold on to JESUS who wants only the best for us. Our Prevailing Hope to overcome temptation is asking the LORD for strength. We can prevail over and walk away from whatever the most enticing bait. With God all things are possible. It is our choice to prevail over the besetting sin or take the bait and pay the consequences.

Finding the Way

Have you ever been lost in a big city? Back before GPS I would go to a big city and get lost. In a way, it was fun searching for my way to my destination. But there were times panic would set in as I realized I really was hopelessly lost.

The big complication is in an unfamiliar city I didn’t know where I was at So anyone I called for help couldn’t really help me. I needed to know where I was in order to get correct directions to where I was going.

gpsMany people today use a GPS (Global Position Satellite). All we have to do is type in where we are, where we want to go, and most the time it will get us there. However, if there is unreported road closings due to construction or an accident we have to change our direction. The GPS will say “Recalculating” and within moments you will once again be going in the right way. Stick to the GPS directions and soon anyone will successfully reach his or her destination.

Sometimes life brings unexpected and often unwanted circumstances that make our

What Way Do I Go?

planned destination either impossible or very difficult. Multiple Sclerosis totally messed up my plan in life. I had a home, car and good paying job at 21 when I suddenly lost vision in one eye. Within 6 months I was approved for disability. I experienced many times of paralysis and blindness. It seemed the GPS of my life had to keep on “Recalculating.” Things I used to do, I know longer can do. There came a time I felt like the GPS of my life was broken; lost in despair and without hope.

The greatest lesson I learned was the need for a plan but not just for life here. Life here can be very disappointing. I needed an everlasting HOPE. I found it! My life is still full of the changes I do not like as my body ages and MS continues to try to destroy my body. BUT I accepted Jesus Christ and I am no longer lost. My destination is the ultimate one and all hell coming against me can not change it. Jesus Christ is my Savior and LORD and He is preparing for me a place. I can and I do keep the “joy set before me” in sight. Heaven is my final destination and nothing and no body can take it away from me. I know where I am going.

John 3:7

Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.

Do you know where you are going ? Do you know how to get there? It is good to have goals such as graduating from college or a job with a certain company. It is also good to plan to get married and have a family. But the MOST important destination is one for which one must be prepare. If you don’t take this seriously you still will have a destination but it will be the wrong direction; hell. SO please take this serious. Eternity is a forever and forever is a long long time. It is the ultimate destination that we all have a choice or direction from which GPS to choose. My GPS is God’s Provided Salvation.

Do you know where you are going? Do you know The Way?

John 14:6

6 Jesus *said to him,“I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

The Way

Times To Remember

Many people love watching old videos of family events such as reunions, weddings and graduations. We all like to remember the memories that bring joy. I know I do. Let us not forget the difficult times in our lives that we got through by the grace and mercy of the LORD. The inspiration and faith building scriptures of men and women of strong faith going through horrible circumstances focus upon doing what God’s will empowered me many times in my life and still does. Daniel in the lions den, Moses at the foot of the Red Sea and Paul in prison are just a few historical stories in the Bible that impacted my life especially in the early years of hospitalizations after the diagnosis of progressive Multiple Sclerosis in 1981-82.

I wrote a poem during the early difficult 4-6 week stays in the hospital when MS was fierce. We all go through rare emotions and doubts when faced with a life changing disease or situation. This poem hits on some of the raw emotions and then on the solid faith that comes from being in a relationship with the LORD Jesus Christ.

Multiple Sclerosis is the disease that’s getting the best of me
It’s very difficult to walk and even more difficult to see
My arms are hard to move, doctor, tell me why
Someone please hold me while I cry and cry and cry
Please, doctor, give me something for the pain
But that’s like asking the weatherman to stop the rain
I can’t move my legs, doc, what’s going on
This can’t be happening, I’m still young
I don’t need any help- get that wheelchair out of here
But before you leave, will you please wipe away my tears
My legs are paralyzed and that wheelchair serves as a friend
M.S. I hate you, when my body dies I’ll live but you’ll end
My faith in God grows stronger daily and will carry me through
To an everlasting life, one without pain, one without you
M.S. I decided you can not have the best of me
I am giving that to Jesus, the One Who died on Calvary
My life is secured in Jesus, no one can take it away
One day it’ll be cast into hell forever—where it belongs
As for now, I’ll give my Best to Jesus and sing a joyful song.

Brenda L. McKee

I recently read what I wrote many years ago….and it encouraged my own heart. When the Holy Spirit lives within us, we because of HE can get through any circumstances on this earth. Circumstances are temporal; life in Christ is forever in a place where there will be no more tears, no more pain and we will be with the ONE Who gave His ALL for us to know Him.

Know He is THE Creator and the things we go through have great purpose whether we see it or not. God is faithful. I know my road ahead may get much worse or it may get better. When I am to fatigue to focus on remembering all God has brought me through I learned to Take my Burden to the LORD and leave it there. It sounds easy but it is Not. Contact me…never give up. There is always hope….and it prevails.

When Despair Prevails…

Yes, this is a blog called Prevailing Hope so why am I writing about despair that prevails?Simply, because sometimes circumstances and situations wear on us; well at least on me. and despair seems to prevail. When despair seeped into my heart, it took my mind with it and it was difficult to focus on anything but the things gone bad.

Depression and SorrowHaving Multiple Sclerosis since 1981 you’d think I get used to the unpredictable life of new symptoms, old symptoms, pain, blurred vision, weakness, extreme fatigue and the list goes on. I won’t bore you with  the details. Suffice to say, I never get used to this body that betrays me. Difficult for me to understand it. So I know most of my well meaning friends cannot understand. I long to go out and walk on the beach of Lake Michigan when it warms up and play soft ball again, go dancing, just walk without pain. I know I am fortunate just to walk. What is it like to not be overwhelmed with fatigue? How to function when what is suppose to function does not? How to deal with more loss of sight and hearing? How does one keep pushing when life at times seems to offer little or nothing to push for…

Dealing with one area at a time would not usually throw me into a state of despair. Add a few more areas of challenges that try my heart and you know why I lingered on the wire of falling deeper into a pit. A few more areas in my life that have fallen into depths of despair are personal losses. It profoundly affects me when my friends face serious physical challenges and not good changes in life. Another huge challenge for me is my wonderful Shadow, devoted Service Dog for many years is now retired due to illness and pain. She is still with me and on medications. We can not go out as a team. Now we deal with separation anxiety; hers and mine. She cries when I leave her alone; I don’t cry on the outside but my heart hurts- I long for my dog to be by my side where she should be.

When I (we) am at my (our) lowest, surely the enemy takes advantage to add to our despair. Suddenly my mind was flooded with the bad choices I made over the years. There were a lot of them and I still make them. The broken dreams  I once had torment me with a sense of loneliness.. I always wanted to be married to the one I love who loves me- going places and enjoying the “good life.” I dreamed of having a career and living in a cabin in the woods; living a writer’s life making a living so I am able to give to others. Some dreams are just…dreams shattered by real life.

Now, that I am done whining (and I thought Shadow would take top prize at whining-not so!) it is time to share the Truth; the GOOD NEWS though it may not be everything is going my way answer- it is the Truth that pulled me up from the pit of despair. It is the same truth that will help you if you embrace it because it is God’s Word.

We all have two choices how to respond to life: Our way or God’s Way. When we become entangled in the world’s ways of dealing with issues it may help for a while but not for long. The world doesn’t hold any long term answers. Watch the news if you don’t believe me. God’s Word has the answer to every issue we have.

Hope prevails over despair when  we choose to live by the Word of God. The despair I was stuck in was rooted in what I wanted in life. I lost sight of  most important.

16 Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. 17 For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

2 Corinthians 4:16

Once I got my true vision back on those things that are eternal, despair literally melted away like wax from a hot flame.glimpses Candle and Candles are melting on floor

Have you ever thought about all Jesus went through so we can live a life of prevailing hope regardless of our circumstances? What if He got tired of His horrible pain, physical, emotional and Spiritual while on the cross and called His angels because He was tired of it all? What if Jesus quit because life wasn’t fair? Life sure wasn’t fair to Him! Yet it was God’s will. All because of God so loved us! These questions loomed in my mind. When I accepted Jesus I chose to be crucified With Christ to be alive to Him. Somehow, I drift back into this life is about me  and my desires- and God does care about this but it is not ALL about me…or you.  I am privileged to know and live for the Most High God. He is the GOD of HOPE Who Prevails.

I repented of my despair as for me it was selfishness and the circumstances wearing on me. The joy of knowing the LORD and living for Him is what real life is about. No matter where and what is going on in life we as Christians are to be the LIGHT that scatters the  darkness.

Therefore, thus says the Lord [to Jeremiah],
“If you repent [and give up this mistaken attitude of despair and self-pity], then I will restore you [to a state of inner peace]
So that you may stand before Me [as My obedient representative];
And if you separate the precious from the worthless [examining yourself and cleansing your heart from unwarranted doubt concerning My faithfulness],
You will become My spokesman.
Let the people turn to you [and learn to value My values]—

Jeremiah 15:18

So what is God’s purpose in our lives? He is the Potter, we are the clay. The clay doesn’t tell the  Potter how to shape it.  The Potter skillfully and lovingly takes the clay and smashes it down to rebuild it into something beautiful. Then the Potter puts the vessel He made into the fiery furnace to get the impurities out of it and seal the beauty in, for His useful service. (Jeremiah 18- read about the Potter and the Clay).

We hold this treasure in our earthen vessel. We can choose to live for ourselves or submit to the Potter Who loves us. His desire is for us to be conformed into the image of His Son Jesus Christ, that all men may know Him.- the God of Prevailing Hope.
