Beating Betrayal

Betrayed concept. If you are breathing you have most likely have felt “betrayed” by someone or some situation or both. Some people describe being betrayed as being doubled crossed by someone they trusted. But the source of being betrayed can vary.

I deal with betrayal everyday, all day long. It is not from my Service Dog nor my cat Murphy. My body betrays me. It is hard to live in a body that can’t be trusted and often “goes out on me” leaving me in the most humbling and embarrassing situations. Depending on a body that dysfunctions doesn’t seem normal. But each new day, I pray and hope this day will be better. Most days are not. But I am so thankful for the times that are better.

Do I always deal with betrayal in a sensible way? No. I sometimes use violence. Sometimes I cry and throw things (which my loyal dog brings back to me) When I can’t see to write, I write by faith instead of sight and it looks like some sort of pig Latin. One of the first times I could not feel or move my legs I really showed them. Laying in the hospital bed I beat them up to “make them feel something.” It didn’t work. All I got was bruises I couldn’t feel. I could write a book on the stupid ways I have dealt with the feeling of betrayal.

In my lowest of lows I have felt like God betrayed me. It is when I allow all of life troubles and my pain to fester without spending time with the LORD. It doesn’t happen often but I am ashamed to say it happens. My LORD is the Only One Who will not betray me…or you. When we think we are betrayed by G-d, it is most often when we are Blind from self pity. Our perspective is warped from what the world’s views of what the best life is or should be. We must…I must remember God created me for His purposes and somehow what He has called me to do. I need to stay focused on His Word.

2Timothy 1:8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity, 10 but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,

So how do we beat betrayal? The key for me is thinking of the One Who was continually betrayed, yet did not retaliate though He had All Power and Authority to do so. Jesus is our greatest example and through Him we can beat betrayal from all sources with Love. Loving my body with its problems and failures would be near impossible except I have this prevailing hope…God has a purpose even in this body. And ultimately, one day this body be changed to incorruptible-no more pain-  in the twinkling of an eye when I shall see Him. It will be worth it all.

So if you ever feel betrayed; like you are being doubled crossed remember the the ONE Who chose to go to the Cross Who was betrayed by us–ultimately doubled crossed so we have the opportunity to choose eternal life. We can have peace, joy, love and a prevailing Hope for an awesome future because Jesus chose to love us enough to die for our sins. Life regardless of how challenging – is well- worth living all-out for Him no matter what the cost.
