Hope That Overcomes Every Regret

Our lives can be consumed with regrets IF we allow regret to flourish. I could write a book on my personal regrets. What might I regret one can ask? It is when I should’ve; could’ve done things differently. I could’ve been more loving without judging.  I should’ve been a friend to one who has none, to smile at those I meet rather than being focused on my agenda any given day or time. I regret my failures in life, which are many, and could easily continue this regret carrying the baggage into some if not all other parts of my life.

Do you have regrets?  How about the times in life when you should’ve, would’ve, could have done things differently and now regret that you didn’t? If you are living in regret, I challenge you to give it up to the LORD. It is not His will to live with regrets as all it does is hold us back from His best.

Challenge - business sign in letters and panorama for coaching, mentoring and success

Paul says in Phil. 3:13-15Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way.”

A regret can and will tear our hearts up if we let it. There is nothing we can do about the things we regret except to give them up. Beating ourselves up does no good except, and in a real way, showing others that God’s grace isn’t enough to wipe out our regrets. God’s grace is the only thing that can and does make the gnawing feeling of regret stop. God gave us The Gift of Prevailing Hope through Jesus Christ. He forgives us of every sin, every regret, and time we ask Him. Then we can live effectively with joy. His forgiveness as we forgive ourselves will make it a new moment; a new today; a new second chance.

To live in regret boils down to a choice we make. I’ve done many things that I regret. Sometimes the toughest part was to forgive myself. But by God’s grace I’ve learned to accept His anointing and forgiveness. It set me free to pursue the LORD with no regrets; pressing on to live my life to the fullness of my ability by His grace.

A different type of the regret is when I did something and latter wish I had not done it but…did. This list includes eating that lonely donut that I didn’t need. It also includes my stubbornness, losing my temper and words that fly out of my mouth before my brain kicks in.

Do you have any “wish I wouldn’t haves” in your life? Every type of regret is a waste of our time and energies. It is a waste of time as we cannot go back in time and do it over. Wishing we could will not change anything. It will consume us and keep us from being at one’s best. Sure we can learn from our regrets but after we ask the LORD’s forgiveness; it is unwise to dwell in these vast wastelands of self-imposed guilt.  I challenge myself and you – to move on. May we repent of our regrets and accept the LORD’s forgiveness and as Paul said, “press on.” 2 Cor. 12:9 But Jesus said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

The Value of YOU

Many people think Christmas is about Santa and pretty lighted trees and getting gifts.  Most people think Christmas is about giving to others. One Person gave His All as Christmas is really about  the value of YOU.

into the room

We live in a world that no longer values human life. It grieves my heart. How many precious souls with potentials as great doctors, leaders, researchers for medical cures and valued human lives are murdered?  – http://www.worldometers.info/abortions/

Many countries and even in some states in America now allow people the right to die. Canada recently joined up giving those who are sick and even those who don’t want to go on living the right to end their life.  Canadians have right to doctor-assisted suicide

Back in the 1980’s a guy by the name of Jack Kevorkian -aka Dr. Death or Jack the Dripper, “helped” 130 people die. Yes, these people were suffering and many had Multiple Sclerosis. I am not belittling suffering. I experience it on a daily basis.  So what is missing in the world today where we causally allow the killing of humans beings without regard to the Great Creator and His plans for these precious lives? If we simply acknowledge the LORD and His purposes for our lives rather than dwell on life from the secular view point perhaps we wouldn’t be hasty to take the gift of life God has given us and take it without regard or fear/respect for our Creator or His plans for us. Regardless, how we think our lives should be; ultimately God has a good plan for our life, one with a future and a hope. We have lost the fear of Almighty God when we don’t value life He has given us or the lives of others.

Multiple Sclerosis along with many other physical challenges remind me every day that I must choose life. Choosing life means purposely living the best day possible. Yes, I am in chronic pain that limits me. I have been paralyzed and blind and didn’t think I would see the age of 30 as the disease progressed quickly early on.  It was when M.S. hit me in my early 20’s I knew I had to find Hope. I found my Prevailing Hope in Jesus Christ.  I came to the point that I knew even IF things got real bad and I was bedridden and could only open my eyes and smile; I would do that for the glory of God. The Word of God gives us a choice and it is this verse in Deut. 30:19  that became real to me:

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life

Besides the many examples in the Bible of those who went through difficult struggles, some to the point of death; I have been inspired by many who live today who face insurmountable odds yet choose life and live for the glory of God purposely with passion.  No life is not easy for them but they recognize life as being the gift it is from our Great Creator. He is the Potter and we are the clay. The following are just a few who have inspired and touched my life by their lives.

Choosing life is no matter how hard life gets is the choice I will make. It is always easy? NO. But God gives us the grace we need as we seek Him. He has put great value on not just my life, but yours. YOU (we) are ultimately the reason Christ came to this earth. He came to redeem us from our sin (for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God) as we needed a Savior.  God made The Way, gave us The Answer and gave us The Life all bundled up in a manger. His Name is Jesus.

For God So Loved the World (YOU)

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

The bottom line is no matter what you face, no matter the trials, no matter the deep hurts or daily chronic pain you may experience your life has great worth and value. So much that God gives YOU the choice of choosing life  everlasting or refusing it. The Word of God even tells us it is His will that we choose life…but He will allow us to choose death.  Dear One, keep in mind the wages of sin is death and it is not simply not existing anymore, it is a place of torment.  I urge you to make the choice for ( Christ) – Life during this Christmas season when God gave His Son as evidence of His great love and value for YOU.

And Merry Christmas to YOU and those you love!

When the Worse is the Best and the Best is Worse

It was a gloomy fall day back in the early 1980’s. At 22 the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis  raged in my body as I laid in the hospital bed, blind, fatigue, weak, partially paralyzed with difficulty breathing. The high dose ACTH  dripped continuously in my vein to fight the MS Attack.

My doctor came in and stood by my bedside. The great part about having a Christian doctor is the Prevailing Hope in Christ we share. Especially when things in the natural don’t look good. It was not exciting to face my prognosis. It was scary. My doctor picked up on my fear and reminded me that as a true born from above daughter of God; the worse thing that can happen to us in this life (death) is the best thing in life-everlasting life with our LORD (at our God appointed time). She look at me and said “Brenda, this life is not all there is.”  The truth is I am not afraid of dying. Living is sometimes the scary part. I can not trust my body and the daily relentless pain challenges continually wears on me. This is when His Grace is sufficient as I choose to remain focused on His promises.

I Cor. 5:9  For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven, inasmuch as we, having put it on, will not be found naked. For indeed while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened, because we do not want to be unclothed but to be clothed, so that what is mortal will be swallowed up by life. Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge. Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord— for we walk by faith, not by sight— we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.

Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard,
And which have not entered the heart of man,
All that God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Cor. 2: 9

So the good news is as a born again child of God; the Worse thing that can happen (dying) is the Best – everlasting life in His Presence.

When does the Best thing in the big picture of life become the Worse thing? If we dwell on things “under the sun” as Solomon puts it.  When someone we love dearly dies and leaves that hole in your heart. When all we see is the fact they are no longer with us and the lost consumes us and an emptiness sets in. All  the missed opportunities to spend time with and tell that person we love him/her.

My brother, Tom

My brother, Tom

My brother recently died. Even looking at the words as I type brings a lump to my heart. I don’t like the cliche’ “he is in a better place.” Though it be true and it brings a measure of comfort and hope; it is like trying to tape up a gaping hole in my heart with scotch tape. It doesn’t stick very long. God’s Word is living and strong. His Word is the Only Word that has power to comfort and is everlasting.

2 Thess. 2:16  Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace,

1 Thess. 4:13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope.

The Only true help and comfort when the best for them seems like the worse for us left in this world that I know of is to spend time in the WORD of GOD and pour my heart out to Him.  Our Prevailing Hope is not in this world. Our Prevailing Hope is in Christ alone and He is the only One Who is able to comfort our human hearts.

Psalm 34:18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
And saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

Come Closer…CLOSER- Come Closer

Ever have a friend that you haven’t seen in years but when you do see them it is like you were never apart? There is a strong bond between close friends that cannot be explained in words.comecloser

There is even greater news. News that we often take for granted or are too busy in our lives doing stuff; ignoring the Greatest Relationship ever available to man. We have the opportunity to know the LORD and spend time in the most awesome relationship we can ever have. Have you ever pondered on the truth that we can say “good morning” to the Creator of…the morning? We can say thank you to the One Who “knew us from before the foundations of the world!” We have the privilege of knowing His plan for humanity in the Holy Bible. His WORD is powerful and life changing to every person who reads it yet it is a personal, living WORD of GOD that can cut to the core of one individual heart with life changing truth. The Living Word of GOD will move one to weep as His Love often will reach out and touch you unlike any other book in the world. His Word is gives us Prevailing HOPE in the midst of man’s futile attempt to fix the entire world’s problems –that we ourselves created. It is laughable that those who are leaders think they are going to fix the world when they don’t have the power to breathe their next breath without the LORD Who is the giver of Life.

Do you know Jesus Christ as your LORD and Savior which gives you the privilege of being a child of GOD? If you don’t; now is the time. You can go to http://peacewithgod.net/ where there is someone usually available to chat with you,  answer your questions, and videos that go into more detail of what making Jesus as LORD and Savior  means.

God knows who you are, He loves you, and He wants you to know and love Him.

How do you we do that?

First admit that, like everyone else, you are a sinner. Being sinners means that we are imperfect and do wrong; we fall short of God’s perfect standard. It also means we are separated from Him and deserve His judgment since HE is our creator and sustainer of life.

But He loves us! God sent His own Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins. He died for your sins. He was punished so you don’t have to be. Not only that; death did not defeat Him. After three days, Jesus rose from the dead, alive again!

The only way to find forgiveness from God and to begin a relationship with Him is to trust in Jesus’ sacrifice for us and repent—turn from our sins. We urge you to take this step of faith today. To do that, simply talk to God—this is called praying—and tell Him you believe in His Son. It is as simple as a short, heart felt prayer like this:

“Dear Lord Jesus,

I know I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead.  I trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In your name, amen.”

Then what? Then you are a child of God and you begin the best journey of your life. It is an exciting journey to know God as your Father. He loves you and knows you – His desire is for us to know Him and we do that on a daily basis by studying His Word, talking to Him-praying and serving Him by being His Ambassador to a world in great need of Hope.

If you have a best friend you know how much you love spending time with him or her. It is no different with spending time with the LORD ONLY HE IS GOD to be respected yet He loves interacting with His children just as a good Father does. Relationships take work whether it is a husband/wife or child and parent relationship or friend to friend. It is the same with the LORD only He gives us His WORD and the Holy Spirit who lives within every believer to guide and help us- when we ask and seek to know the Truth.

The most cherished relationship I have is with the LORD. He is with me 24/7 and I pour my heart out to Him, my hurts, my joys, my tears, my fears and He understands me! I don’t have to spend thousands of dollars for man’s advice- I have the best counsel available in the Word of GOD. So do you.

I totally believe God has a sense of humor—if you heard me sing you would agree. Good relationships are built on trust, respect, love, and loyalty, laughing together, crying together and walking through the hard stuff of life as well as enjoying each others company just because they are  in one’s presence, no words needed.

That is like my relationship with the LORD. He is not a respecter of persons; whosoever calls upon the Name of the LORD shall be saved. YOU CAN KNOW HIM. He already knows YOU.

Every promise of covenant made by God, and angel of the Lord, or Jesus himself begins with: “if you do __________, then I will __________.”

James 4:8

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

The Perfect Sinner

The other day I looked in the mirror and wept. Not because of the reflection I saw with my eyes (that’s something to cry about too- 🙂 but because of what I know is in my heart. That is the great part…you don’t see my heart. But God does.

SINNER

SINNER

This morning Facebook had an app that you could use in which they take your profile and posts to calculate “how nice you are?” I got a good laugh out of it. These are my results: Brenda, are you actually an angel? It’s just that you’re glowing with goodness. Heavenly! You are such an incredibly nice person. You wouldn’t even be able to tread on a flower without bursting into tears. Stay the lovely person you already are but make sure no one takes advantage of your generous spirit.

I do care about others and am an upbeat person. But I am not an angel and I would not burst into tears if I stepped on a flower- I’d walk around it. Most people would consider me a “good” person but they are wrong.

sinner

He knows our hearts.

Jesus even said He wasn’t good! Mark 10:18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.”

Jesus didn’t die on the Cross to save good people. He died to save sinners –like me. The Word of God says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9). I will sometimes admit to making stupid “mistakes” or making “poor choices.” Sin is like a four letter word. The world we live in is evil. Sometimes, I’ll heart is deceitfulmy sin rather than call it what it is. But my heart knows better. “But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6). “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us” (1 John 1:8)

For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20 These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them. (Mark 15:19-20)

Note the scripture says “out of the heart comes evil thoughts.” It is a battle ground. Most of my battles are against evil thoughts and bad attitudes. This is where sin begins, where it ends is up to me. Words take the sin from “evil thoughts” and put sin into motion. The motion will go further into an action unless I deal with it.

Here is the Prevailing Hope or as Jesus puts it “the Good News.” We’re all sinners. God knows our base, evil nature. He knows that none of us could ever be good enough to have a relationship with Him. So He made a way for us to spend eternity in heaven by placing all our sinfulness on Christ and having Him die in our place. Praise God that He hasn’t left us to our own devices but instead has forgiven us and imputed to us Christ’s righteousness. By God’s good grace, we have Christ’s basic goodness resident within us.

Jesus is my Lord and Savior since 1977 and I know His righteousness is imputed unto me so He sees me like Christ. When we are born from above we are sealed by the Holy Spirit but it doesn’t mean that the war Satan wages against us is over. Satan is the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. We also wage war against our flesh. Apostle Paul puts it like this, “but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (Romans 7:23-25)

The truth is I am a Perfect Sinner. I am perfect because the righteousness of Christ Jesus reigns in me. I am a sinner because I fall short, miss the target every day whether in thought or in deed. You will note as you study the Word of God that it is full of sinners like King David who not only committed adultery but plan a murder to cover it up; Moses was a murderer, as was Apostle Paul. The Good News is GOD unconditionally LOVES US and the Power of His Blood to washes away all of our sin- past, present and future. When Jesus said, “It is finished!” on the cross that is what He meant. Our prevailing hope is IN Christ. I am so thankful His mercies are new every morning.

Someone once said, “The greatest saints, down through the centuries, have all acknowledged themselves to be the greatest of sinners.”

Watch Your Head

Ever wanted to fail a test so that “whatever” you had could be fixed? Well, I called my doctor for the report I have been waiting for. I have many things going wrong in my body. I won’t bore you with the details. Except that I despise what is happening to my body but it is the only body I have. Attitude adjustments are necessary and necessary often.

The blood tests were all within normal limits. If I had an old wall phone I would have slammed the receiver down at the speed of light rate to match how fast my attitude took a dive. Normal? Give me a break. So what are these crazy symptoms? Multiple Sclerosis can affect any area, any function that your nervous system affects. I’d like to use my imagination…for something better than what can go wrong with my body. The other doctor told me if this test was normal, another specialize doctor and more torture tests are needed. (Well, okay I threw in the word “torture”).

Viking with a steel helmet

Viking with a steel helmet

I sense my thoughts’ going down a dark road of woe is me. I realized I took my helmet off that protects my head. All the negative thoughts that used to bounce off my head were penetrating my mind. I repented and took the helmet of salvation and secured it back on my head. What am I going to do Oh LORD? I don’t want to think about more tests, more pain, more challenges… The thought came lightning fast:

Ephesidans 6:16 With all of these, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints

During the tough times when all I can see is me; it is due time to look for others who are hurting and reach out to them. It matters not if they have a hang nail compared to the pain I have. What matters is that I reach out beyond myself to help someone who is hurting. That is what Jesus would do. When I reached out to another one with a broken heart, my pain didn’t go away. But the joy of touching another’s live with the real hope and joy in the midst of our circumstances not only mended her broken heart, but I regained perspective. This life is not about me and it never has been. It is about sharing the prevailing hope we have in Christ when life hurts…because this life is but a vapor and ONE DAY everything we thought was unfair, unjust, too much to bear …will be worth it all and so much more.

Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope-   1 Peter 3:15
